AMMAN - A JORDANIAN on death row for the murder of his married sister who used her mobile too often in an apparent 'honour killing' has had his term commuted to 10 years in jail, a judicial official said on Monday.

'The man confessed to the crime after he was arrested shortly after the crime,' the official told AFP.

The defendant said 'he stabbed his sister, who was in her 40s, in the stomach, back and chest because she frequently talked over her mobile phone and allegedly had suspicious behaviour,' said the official, on condition of anonymity.

Schweinfurt, Germany - A Turkish doner kebab vendor told a German court Wednesday how he stabbed his teenaged daughter 68 times in their home, but he denied the attack was an honour killing.

Prosecutors in the southern town of Schweinfurt have charged him with murder, alleging he killed Busra, 15, because she had a boyfriend, 17, and was a heavy user of her mobile phone and the internet.

Honour crimes continue to rise in Jordan, generating controversy both at home and abroad. The total number of honour crimes rose to 22 cases in 2009 compared with 18 cases in 2008. Based on the records of the high criminal court, the last three murders occurred in December 2009.

Just last week, a 19-year-old male received a 10-year prison sentence for stabbing his sister to death in April 2009. The victim was a freshman physics major at the University of Jordan. She reportedly had left home, was arrested by police and held in administrative detention. The victim then went to stay with relatives, when her 19-year-old brother entered the house where she was staying and stabbed her nine times. An autopsy revealed that the victim was not sexually active.

Girl, paramour killed for 'honour'

LAHORE - A general store owner along with his son slaughtered his teenage daughter and her paramour for honour in Kahna police jurisdiction on Tuesday.

According to police investigators Tanzeela Riaz had an affair with Babar Ali, resident of her locality since long and reportedly Tanzeela was warned numerous times by her family against these relations. However she did not care and kept on meeting Babar.

On the day of incident, Riaz and his son Fiaz caught both victims in an objectionable condition at their residence in Sowa-e-Asil.

Narida resident arrested for killing daughter's lover

A 50-year-old Narela resident was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing and burning the body of his daughter's lover.

Police said deceased Naresh Rana (27) had eloped with the 15-year-old daughter of Hema Ram in March this year.

The father had lodged a case of kidnapping since his daughter was a minor.

Police said Rana was killed because Ram did not approve of his (Rana's) relationship with his daughter.

Four women killed over Karo-Kari in upper Sindh

KHAIRPUR: Four women were killed in different incidents of Karo-Kari in upper Sindh. Police sources said in Village Tovar in the limits of Moro Town, accused Ali Khan Halepoto gunned down his daughter Gul Bano (17) over Karo-Kari and escaped.

In Qadri Mohalla, Thul, Ariz Sarki fired upon his sister and her alleged boyfriend. Police sources said Zarina was killed while her boyfriend Shahnawaz was injured.

Honour killing case: Lover found dead

Muzzafarnagar, Dec 19 (PTI) Nearly a week after a 20-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her brother for eloping with a boy from a different community, in a suspected case of honour killing, her lover has been found dead.

The body of Anil Kumar who was missing since December 13, the day girl Rahila was shot dead by her brother Wasim was found here yesterday, police said.

The accused Wasim had surrendered on December 17 and was sent to 14-days judicial custody by a local court.

Glendale father faces murder charge

An Iraqi immigrant accused of slaying his daughter in an "honor killing" has been charged with first-degree murder and could face the death penalty, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Monday.

Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, of Glendale, is accused of using his Jeep Cherokee to run over his daughter, 20-year-old Noor Almaleki, and another woman in a Peoria parking lot on Oct. 20. His daughter died of her injuries.

At least a dozen children feared to be victims of ‘honour’ killings

Police are investigating about a dozen cases of missing children in Britain who they fear may be victims of “honour-based” violence, it emerged today.

Prosecutors say they are assisting in cases where children have been taken out of school without any explanation, and who have since disappeared.

The development came after a man was jailed for life yesterday for the “honour killing” of his 15-year-old daughter. The conviction came more than a decade after the teenager disappeared.
