In another suspected case of honour killing in Punjab, Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, a resident of village Landke near Moga, strangulated his minor sister Preeti whom he suspected of having an affair with a villager. The accused is on the run, said the police at Mehna.

According to neighbours, on Tuesday, Lakhwinder had asked his sister Preeti (14) to stop meeting the boy. When Preeti refused, Lakhwinder allegedly strangulated her.

Jagtar Singh, the SHO of Mehna police station, said, “Lakhwinder’s wife is pregnant and has gone to her parents’ home for delivery while Paramjit Kaur, his mother, had gone to a nearby village to meet her relatives. Preeti, we have been told, had gone to Moga with a boy. When she returned home, Lakhwinder came to know about it. The two had an argument on this. Lakhwinder then killed his sister. We have registered a case against him based on the statement of their mother.”

This is the fifth such case in the state since July this year.
