In a suspected honour killing, a man involved in a relationship with a Dalit woman was stoned to death allegedly by her community members, police said on Thursday.

Forty eight-year-old widower Prem Singh of Thakur caste was in a relationship with the woman for the past few years, which was opposed by her community members, they said.

Singh was cornered near the woman's house in Umarpur village here last evening and beaten to death after being attacked with bricks and stones by a group of Dalit men, Deputy SP Rajesh Kumar said.

July 22--AMMAN -- The Criminal Court has sentenced a 20-year-old man to 10 years in prison for murdering his sister following an argument over her "immoral behaviour" in the Jordan Valley in August 2009.

The court first handed the defendant a 15-year prison term after convicting him of stabbing his teenage sister to death at their home on August 16, but decided to immediately reduce the sentence to 10 years because the victim's father dropped charges against his son.

A 17-year-old woman found dead one month ago was allegedly murdered by her 15-year-old brother in an “honor killing” after she left the women’s shelter where she was staying, daily Radikal reported Wednesday.

The body of Şeyma G. was found half buried in the ground in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, while subsequent tests revealed that she had been strangled to death. Her brother Y.G. was caught by police and then arrested July 16.

As the number of ‘honour’ killings in the country continues to rise, National Human Rights Commission chairman K G Balakrishnan said he realised the gravity of the situation only when a series of such cases happened, yet disfavours a separate law against it.

‘I did not know the seriousness of the crime till late and came to know about it recently when a series of such killings had already taken place in the country,’ Mr Balakrishnan said.

The Islamic Republic’s judiciary authorities are going to decide Sakineh’s case on Wednesday, the 21st of July.

Couple killed for 'honour' in Bihar

SIWAN: In a suspected case of honour killing, a couple was killed allegedly by the girl's brothers and uncle who were not happy with her decision to marry a boy not belonging to their caste. The assailants, however, spared their one-year-old child, Anshu.

The incident took place at Kala Dumra village in Bihar's Siwan district on Sunday night.

BULANDSHAHR (UP): A 20-year-old woman was murdered allegedly by her family members here for marrying against their wishes, in a suspected honour killing case.

Sangeeta, who worked in a Noida firm and belonged to the gujjar community, was killed on July 13 and her body cremated by her mother, uncles and cousin who were opposed to her marriage to Ravinder, who is a dalit, police said here.

Sangeeta's mother Ramwati and four others were on Monday arrested in this connection, Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters in Lucknow.
